Engineering for innovation

Designing/construction of                        cutting-edge energy technologies

What is TIFEO?

TIFEO is an innovative start-up combining academic competence and entrepreneurial expertise.

Our mission is to develop sustainable energy solutions.

The company leverages high engineering competences with the aim of developing, building and commercializing innovative solutions to drive the energy world towards a more sustainable future.

Its expertise ranges from conventional power generation to innovative energy technologies for both industrial and residential applications.

TIFEO provide consulting services for European Funding Programs and energy system management.

TIFEO patented Combined Cooling Heating and Power (CCHP) technology exploiting any heat source

(WO2017158511-2017-09-21 “Plant and method for the supply of electric power and/or mechanical power, heating power and/or cooling power”)

The patented thermodynamic cycle and related plant allows the efficient use of any renewable heat source (e.g., biomass, geothermal, solar) or traditional heat source (e.g., gas) for the simultaneous production of electric power, heating power and-or cooling power.

The working fluid circulates in the patented plant according to a novel sequence of thermodynamic processes, including expansions and compressions in the wet saturated phase (i.e., two-phase processes). Two-phase expansions and two-phase compressions take place in non-conventional two-phase machines.

The patented technology has several advantages in comparison to commercialized co-trigeneration plants

1

High efficiency

Proper combination of nearly direct and inverse Carnot cycles operating with two-phase fluid.

This translates into lower bills.

2

Improved flexibility

Provision of electric, heating and-or cooling powers simultaneously.

The plant can chase and satisfy the end user energy demand in a predictable and dispatchable way.

3

High compactness

No connection between different technologies as in the commercialized co-trigeneration systems.

Our EU funded research projects

REGEN-BY-2

REGEN-BY-2 is a Horizon 2020 EU-funded project (RIA, 5 millions €, 2020-24), that aims to develop a first-of-its-kind lab-scale prototype of a highly efficient thermodynamic cycle and related plant for the valorisation of renewable thermal energy sources, unlocking their large potential to supply electric, heating and-or cooling energy vectors. The REGEN-BY-2 technology, enabled by two-phase fluids machines, has been recently patented nearly worldwide by TIFEO.

TIFEO, as project promoter and the scientific coordinator, is leading the research, design and prototyping activities.

Reffect Africa

REFFECT AFRICA tackles the development of renewable energy sources, providing solutions for on-grid and off-grid communities, and their integration into the existing energy system considering the generation of renewable energy, the transmission, and the use of storage systems.

The project will work on obtaining biochar from the gasifier, and will be improved to provide a valuable fertilizer to local farmers.

The role of TIFEO is to support the South African pilot with an in depth techno-economic assessment, defining demand power profiles, designing the optimal solution and supporting the demonstrators during construction and commissioning.
